Posted: April 26, 2011 Filed under: War and Peace 6 CommentsI read a blog post recently (not on a blog I usually read, but one that was linked in my overflowing Google Reader) about tips for new bloggers. Most points I could agree with – write about things you love, or at least are interested in; comment on others’ blogs and respond to comments on your own blog.
But another suggestion was to go heavy on the pictures, reason being: “it is true that blogging was created to be about your writing and what you had to say. it is evolving, however, into how well you take pictures and whether or not you know how to vlog.” The author goes on to say that if a post has too much text and too few pictures, she probably won’t stay interested; she needs visual stimulation.
Now, I’m not saying that this isn’t the case for a lot of people. (Double negative…tricky.) I just think it’s too bad that we’ve become so dependent on visual stimulation to become or remain interested in a topic, whether it’s a news article, a blog post, or something else entirely.
I’ll be honest, I’m not going to vlog. Ever.
Also, I take terrible pictures, except of my kids who are adorable even in blurry photos, so don’t expect to see pictures from my non-existent top-of-the-line camera. (That would be awesome though.)
Does it bother you that I don’t put a bunch of pictures with every post? I kind of figure you’re all intelligent people and you can handle 5 minutes of reading plain text. Right? Or are you actually morons?
