New Obsession
Posted: December 1, 2008 Filed under: Howl's Moving Castle 5 CommentsYou know how I love microcredit, right? Well, Heifer International basically does microcredit using animals instead of money! It’s brilliant!
They provide cows, sheep, goats, llamas, chickens, geese, ducks, rabbits…the animals are given to poor families worldwide who can then use the livestock for food and income. Additionally, each family is expected to pass on some of the offspring to other needy families.
I think it’s really cool that you can buy (donate, I suppose) a flock of chicks for $20. If you’re having trouble thinking of what to get me for Christmas, might I suggest that you put $5 toward my upcoming purchase from Heifer International? It seems like such a worthwhile effort, and honestly, I don’t need a lot of things this year (the Bwun, however, is another story!).

Is there like a list of people who want llamas?? Who knew?
Although I have to admit that everytime I hear something about llamas, it reminds me of my favorite ailment, llama-dung-lung. (Say it again!)
My mom did this last year with the grandkids. They all saved their money for a month and then bought flocks of chicks. It was one of the sweetest things ever to see even the little tiny ones donate their money. Great program. I think she said they are doing goats this year. SUPER cool thing!!!
Yeah your mom told us about it and that’s the first I’d heard of it. Such a great idea!
