Mess, as promised

This morning I slept in. I planned to get up at 7:30, but I was exhausted. So I set the alarm for 8. I finally got up just before 9…by then I actually felt ok, so while the Romgi made breakfast (poached eggs on English muffins, and orange juice – perfect!) I worked on cleaning the living room. It wasn’t that I was afraid of taking pictures of it in its chaotic mess, I just wanted to start on it while I had the motivation and energy. Besides, I didn’t get nearly finished, and the Bwun helped make sure it was plenty chaotic.

Okay…ready?

To be fair, the Bwun was pretty happy while he destroyed things.

There's a box of ginger snaps on the couch because last night the Romgi made the most AMAZING berry crisp for dessert. I'll get you the recipe. Soon.

Our bedroom (my side of the bed is on the right in this picture). Someday I'll get the Romgi to fix the light behind our bed. The Bwun did a great job detaching it from the wall. Sigh.

The Romgi's side of the bed (read: the mess is NOT all my fault!).

The Bwun's room was actually clean this morning, but who would expect it to stay tidy all day? The new wardrobe is in the corner, and the old drawers are over on the left. Also pictured is the glider rocking chair I got for free and am in the process of reupholstering. I meant to finish before jr was born. Ha! And on the bottom left you can see part of a nativity set the Romgi's grandma got for us a few years ago. It got taken out of the closet when we were rearranging some things, and the Bwun loves it. He picks up the shepherds and declares, "Man!" Oh, and he never finishes eating anything. That's why there's a barely-eaten pb&j sandwich on the footrest.

You’ll notice there are no pictures of the kitchen. Just taking these photos, and then sharing them, makes me feel like a really miserable slovenly person. Be friendly, please? I hate being untidy but it’s a hard habit to fix!

Oh, and I almost forgot – here’s a not-too-great look at the silver wall.

Soon there will be an Ikea bed here instead of a vacuum and half-undressed rocking chair.

Homecoming

We’ve been staying with the Romgi’s parents since we left the hospital on Thursday. Today we came back to our own apartment – between jr needing more jaundice tests down in Payson and the Romgi having school here in Provo, it was hard on our car and on us to be away from home.

Of course, we left home in a big hurry last week, and when we stopped off here Thursday on our way to the in-laws’, we fairly well trashed the place getting the clothes and supplies we’d need for a semi-extended stay elsewhere. I detest coming home to a messy house, but what choice did I have? So we returned triumphantly (exhaustedly!) to a disaster of a house. And I mean a BIG disaster.

You know what? I’m trying really, really hard not to care. I don’t currently have the time or energy to clean everything, even though I want to. Badly. Tomorrow I’ll be brave, and trusting, and show you pictures of what our apartment looks like right now. Maybe that’s the first step in being willing to ask someone for help. Having two kids is tricky so far!

The good news (aside from all of us being healthy, and generally happy) is that the Romgi’s grandma very generously purchased a new wardrobe for the kids’ room. It’s from Ikea and it’s perfect. When we moved into this apartment, there were weird homemade drawers in what has become the kids’ room – and not the good kind of homemade. I’ve probably mentioned them before. At any rate, having the new wardrobe means we can get rid of the drawers and free up a lot of floor space. The Romgi very generously donated his time to constructing the wardrobe, and by lunchtime (ok, a late lunchtime) it was ready to be filled.

I got a few pictures of the Bwun playing with it before we put him to bed. (Actually, it was my turn to put him in bed, but he was throwing such a tantrum and I was getting so frustrated that the Romgi took over. What would I do without him?)

(We moved the old drawers to make way for the new wardrobe. Apparently the Bwun has been building up a stash of crumbs, paper, and who-knows-what-else behind the drawers. Vacuuming tomorrow...if I'm feeling up to it!)

Any advice on adjusting to life with two kids? The Bwun just had a molar come through and he’s been a pill lately! If I can just make it through this phase…maybe just through the end of the week or even tomorrow…things will be ok, right?

Accomplishments, again

I’ve decided to try doing (or at least starting) one thing from my Day Zero list every week. This week’s goal is #22, watch Miracle on 34th Street. (Really – I’ve never seen it before. No spoilers!)

I think next week I’ll look for a photo album for our wedding photos (#61). But don’t hold me to it.

Baby steps, right? I read a book this weekend for the first time in months – to be fair, it was a re-read: The Client by John Grisham. Actually much more interesting now that I have minimal secondhand knowledge of the legal world. And after finishing that (thanks to the many, many late-night hot baths I’ve been taking) I started on Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese. I have the Kindle edition, so no bathtime reading, but today I’ve spent a lot of time lying in bed trying not to have contractions, and it’s nice to have something to do…even if the “something” is just reading.

What do you hope to accomplish this week?
