Work in progress
Posted: January 2, 2011 Filed under: Great Expectations Leave a commentDo you remember the Day Zero Project I decided to participate in? I have until April 2011 to finish my 101 things (in 1001 days). This year I’m hoping to accomplish more items intentionally, rather than just looking at the list periodically and realizing I’ve done some things since I last looked. My calendar already has some items planned: donating blood (I made an appointment), painting a picture (I’ll have the Bwun help, and show you the results), playing chess with the Romgi (I expect to lose). I should even be able to cross off my big goal by the end of the 1001 days – finishing my degree. Ten years is a long time for an undergrad degree, but being able to get married and have two great kids has been a fabulous way to put off graduation for so long. Take a look at my list and let me know which of the remaining items I should try next!
Resolutions
Posted: January 1, 2011 Filed under: Great Expectations Leave a commentI’m not sure I care for the word “resolution.” It seems too determined. To be resolved to change, you really have to put a lot of effort into it, right? I think this year I’ll have some goals and not feel miserable or like a failure if I’m not perfect at achieving them all the time. (The Romgi, do you see how much I’ve learned in the past year?)
Some of my 2011 goals:
- Eat more healthy food and less junk food
- Be frugal
- Teach the Bwun (basic gospel principles, letters, opposites, etc.)
- Go on a date with the Romgi at least once per quarter
- Write in my journal weekly
- Develop patience by learning to think, even briefly, before speaking or acting
- Be more disciplined about following a daily routine
I’m about to start working on my first goal when I get up to go eat breakfast in a minute. There’s leftover chocolate pumpkin cake that the Romgi made yesterday and it’s tempting to have that, but my plan is to have some fruit and toast instead. (We’re at the Romgi’s parents’ house right now – when we get home I’m going to make a great menu and go grocery shopping for the next week. Here’s to more healthy food and less junk food!)
Did you make any resolutions or goals for this year?
Still improving
Posted: November 21, 2010 Filed under: Great Expectations 3 CommentsYou know what’s even better than trying to be perfect, failing, and feeling miserable? Having a husband who’s willing to help you clean the house.
Last night the Romgi helped me clean our bedroom. It was a too-overwhelming-to-start situation for me, but we divided things up and got it cleaned after the kids were in bed. (No way can anything be tidy when the Bwun is awake. That kid knows how to make a mess!) Then it just took a quick vacuuming and presto – a clean room! Also, I did 7 loads of laundry and I’ve got easily 5 more to do tomorrow. But hey, we like having clean things.

That awesome turtle pillow was a Christmas gift from my brother a bajillion years ago. It's still comfy. But the Romgi has sort of claimed it. That's ok, I've claimed almost every single one of the Romgi's tshirts. I use them for pajamas. And just chillin'.

And the incredible 70s pillowcases are borrowed (ahem) from the Romgi's parents. I think I saw a matching sheet set in their linen closet once. Not that I was looking or anything.
Other news…? I have 6 more books to read by the end of the year. One is a picture book. This is doable, right? I can’t believe I’m having trouble reading 26 books in a year! Oh well. My kids are cute, so I guess I’m a winner anyway.
